While I don’t have a St. Patrick’s Day concept per se, I do have something better. It’s from a designer named Patrick... and it’s all very green!
Patrick Shannon makes his debut on the Concepts Showcase with a new look for the Vancouver Canucks. He writes:
For whatever reason I felt compelled to give the Canucks a refresh after decades of what I feel have been missed opportunities (especially recently).
As a West Coast Indigenous person, I’ve never loved that orca logo (I’ve always viewed it as a cheap imitation of our artwork), and I felt it got even worse when it went monochromatic. They always had an ace in the hole with their updated secondary mark, the chunkier stick in rink logo had so much potential but was never utilized to its fullest.
The Canucks also missed the mark on their striping, once again getting close, but the white jersey in particular missed the mark. The chunky and bold colours of the 40th anniversary jersey were just stunning to look at, in fact their original branding was so close, why not bring it into the present?
I paired an updated original home and away with a couple green alternates. One that strips out the white, I feel giving it more of an edge and showcasing green in all its glory; and the second alternate that brings back black as a key colour, with a subtle gradient nod to their early 2000s salmon alternate.
I know it’s not swinging for the fences, but the Canucks have been so close without ever hitting the mark, and I needed to see what they could look like if they pulled it all together nicely.
